CBP to Alert EEI Filers of Held, Releases Shipments
CBP soon will allow its officers to send two response code messages to filers of Electronic Export Information to notify them that their shipment is being held or released, the agency said in a Dec. 15 CSMS message. CBP said exporters and software developers that submit EEI via the Electronic Data Interface will need to “program and test their software so their clients receive” the two new response code messages.

Response Code 97H will notify filers that their shipment has been put on hold in the Automated Export System, CBP said. The code will be sent when the shipment is held for “further inspection or missing documentation.” The message will instruct filers to contact a port for “further instructions on how to resolve the issue.” Response Code 97R will notify filers that their held shipment has been released and it can be exported.
The codes have been “added to the AESTIR Appendix A -- and are ready for testing in certification. Software Vendors should contact their respective Client Representative to begin testing,” CBP said. “97H and 97R response messages are active in Certification. A follow-up message will announce when the messages will be active in production.”
