BIS Denies Export Privileges for Illegal Gun, Ammunition Shipments

The Bureau of Industry and Security this week revoked export privileges for three people after they illegally exported controlled firearms and ammunition from the U.S.

BIS said Jose Ernesto Garcia of Texas was convicted Feb. 3, 2020, of exporting “various firearms” to Mexico without a license. Garcia was sentenced to 37 months in prison, three years of supervised release and a $100 fine. BIS denied Garcia's export privileges for 10 years from the date of conviction.

Maurice Taylor, currently in prison in Louisiana, was convicted July 18, 2019, of conspiring to buy and export firearms to the U.K. without a license. Taylor was sentenced to five years in prison, three years of supervised release and a total fine of $2,700. BIS denied Taylor's export privileges for 10 years from the date of conviction.

Luis Carlos Quintana-Saenz of Mexico was convicted Aug. 12, 2020, of trying to export about 3,860 rounds of ammunition of “various calibers” to Mexico. Quintana-Saenz was sentenced to 37 months in prison with credit for time served, two years of supervised release and a $100 fine. BIS denied Taylor's export privileges for nine years from the date of conviction.
