BIS Denies Export Privileges for Illegal Defense Shipments

BIS said Javier Melesio Deleon, currently in prison in Texas, was convicted Jan. 21, 2021, of exporting and attempting to export five pistols to Mexico. Deleon was sentenced to 46 months in prison, three years of supervised release, a $900 court assessment and forfeiture in the amount of $1,040. BIS denied Deleon's export privileges for seven years from the date of conviction.
Wei Sun of Arizona was convicted June 2, 2020, of exporting to China technical data in the form of two files of computer data contained in a computer possessed by Sun, controlled under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations and the U.S. Munitions List without having first obtained from the State Department a license for such export or written authorization for such export. Sun was sentenced to 38 months in prison, three years of supervised release and a $100 special assessment. BIS denied Sun's export privileges for 10 years from the date of conviction.
