Bipartisan Bill Introduced to Require Higher Non-Intrusive Screening Rates

Sens. Gary Peters, D-Mich., and John Cornyn, R-Texas, introduced a bill July 20 that would require 90% or more of commercial vehicles to go through non-intrusive inspection at ports of entry by the end of fiscal year 2024.

Peters said he has secured hundreds of millions in funding to buy this kind of equipment. “This commonsense, bipartisan bill will make sure that CBP is using this equipment to the fullest extent possible to detect illegal activity at our borders and to prevent illicit substances like fentanyl from reaching our communities,” he said in a press release.
