Bills to Remove Tariffs on Formula Gaining Momentum
The Senate unanimously passed a bill that would remove quotas and tariffs on imported formula for 90 days. The bill, introduced by Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, passed June 23. Lee had originally sought to remove the tariffs and quotas for 180 days.

A bill in the House that would remove tariffs on imported formula through Nov. 14 was introduced earlier in the week, with support from both the Ways and Means Committee's Trade Subcommittee chairman and its ranking member (see 2206220047). House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., who makes the decisions about what to bring to the floor for a vote, told International Trade Today that leadership is looking at the bill, though he did not predict if it might get a vote next month, when the House returns.
"We're very focused on this shortage," he said. "It's a real health crisis we have for our infants in this country." Hoyer took questions at a June 23 press conference at the Capitol.
