FinCEN Announces New Acting Director, Begins Search for Permanent Head
Himamauli Das, a former Treasury Department and National Security Council official, will serve as the new acting director of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, the agency announced Aug. 3. Das will take over from acting director Michael Mosier, who plans to leave the agency at the end of the week. Treasury also said it officially began its search for a permanent FinCEN director.

Das oversaw trade and investment matters at Treasury and the NSC, where he worked to “impose targeted financial sanctions across a range of malign actors.” He was most recently a managing director at the compliance firm K2 Integrity, where he advised on the Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S. “I’m eager to lead this organization as it carries out critical work to safeguard the financial security of the United States,” Das said in a statement. Treasury Deputy Secretary Wally Adeyemo said: “There has never been a more important time to bring the full force of this team of dedicated professionals to the work of disrupting illicit finance, including the funding of terrorism.”
