BIS Denies Export Privileges for Illegal Exports to Mexico, Lebanon, Russia
The Bureau of Industry and Security issued orders temporarily denying export privileges for three people involved in illegal exports. Irma Lizette Trevizo was convicted April 30, 2019, of conspiring to smuggle firearms and ammunition from the U.S. to Mexico, BIS said in a Jan. 25 order. Trevizo was sentenced to two years in prison, two years of supervised release and a $100 fine. BIS denied Trevizo’s export privileges for 10 years from the date of her conviction.

Issam Hamade was convicted April 27, 2020, of conspiring to illegally export parts and technology from the U.S. to Lebanon, BIS said in a Jan. 25 order. The agency said the goods were destined for Hezbollah for inclusion in drones. Hamade was sentenced to time served and a $100 fine. BIS denied Hamade’s export privileges for 10 years from the date of conviction.
BIS also issued a Jan. 27 order denying export privileges for Julian Demurjian, a California business owner who was fined by BIS earlier this week (see 2101270054). The order includes more details on the seven Export Administration Regulations violations committed by Demurjian, including his efforts to undervalue exports of telecommunication equipment to Russia to avoid filing requirements.
