CBP Requiring Vessel Certificates Through DIS, Email at Port of New York/Newark
CBP is now requiring all vessel certificates, “including registry, load line, tonnage and safety of life at sea (SOLAS),” to be filed at the Port of New York/Newark electronically, it said a notice sent by the port on June 10. Effective June 8, the port will accept vessel certificates through the Document Imaging System “in-lieu of requiring hard copies to be presented, unless the validity of the documents are called into question,” CBP acting Port Director Edward Fox said in a notice. The agency will also accept scanned original certificates emailed to the ports, Fox said. Document sent by email should go to docs@cbp.dhs.gov.
