USTR Releases Notice on EU Tariffs
The U.S. government will apply 10 percent tariffs to large civil aircraft and 25 percent tariffs to a variety of European foodstuffs, beverages and some tools, starting at 12:01 Eastern Daylight Time Oct. 18, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative said in a notice posted ahead of publication in the Federal Register. As USTR said previously (see 1905310070), the tariffs are not based on the date of export.

If these goods are admitted into a foreign trade zone once the tariffs apply, they can only be admitted as "privileged foreign status," and will be subject to the additional duties when they enter into consumption, the notice said. The notice also clarified that the 10 percent tariff on aircraft is only on planes with no time in service. The administration may modify the rate or list of goods in the future, and the notice said the USTR is open to negotiating with the European Union.
