The government of Canada issued the following trade-related notices as of Oct. 4 (note that some may also be given separate headlines):

  • Streamlining of public documents related to TRQ administration for supply-managed products. Global Affairs Canada's Supply-Managed Trade Controls Division has streamlined and simplified public documents related to tariff rate quota administration for supply-managed products. The initiative is in response to the increased number of TRQs. The documents are ready for the application period that opened Oct. 1. An announcement says the importer notices are now in plain language, and "There is no change to existing ministerial policies."
  • Updates coming on tariff classification of suitcases, traveling bags, backpacks (rucksacks) and handbags. The Canada Border Services Agency announced Sept. 27 it will be updating the content of Memorandum D10-15-29 in response to a decision by the Canadian International Trade Tribunal on the tariff classification of suitcases, traveling bags, backpack (rucksacks) and handbags of tariff heading 42.02 (see 1906200043).
  • NAFTA textile/apparel TPL utilization. Global affairs updated the 2019 NAFTA textile and apparel tariff preference level utilization rate for imports and exports.
  • Product Recalls: Luyten Resin Bath Stools manufactured in China recalled, for fall hazard; ASCO Solenoid Valves found in VIQUA Accessory Kits for UV Water Treatment Systems manufactured in the United States recalled, for electric shock hazard; Pyranha 9Rll Kayak manufactured in the United Kingdom recalled, for entrapment hazard; Plush Sherpa children’s sleepwear manufactured in China recalled, for flammability hazard due to not meeting flammability requirements of children's sleepwear regulations.
