Turkey, US Creating Committees to Reach $100 Billion Trade Goal
The U.S. and Turkey created sectoral committees to reach the two sides’ $100 billion trade goal, the two countries said at a Sept. 10 press conference. The committees will help with the goal -- initially announced by President Donald Trump during his June G-20 meeting with Turkey -- by bringing together Turkish and American business circles to promote trade, according to a report from the Daily Sabah. The committees will be run by the two countries' trade ministries, the report said.

During the press conference, held with Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, Turkish Trade Minister Ruhsar Pekcan said Turkey hopes it can capitalize on the U.S.-China trade war to gain more access to the U.S. market. “We have determined that the issues between the U.S. and China will create a significant opportunity for trade in various sectors,” Pekcan said, according to Reuters. Turkey also asked the U.S. to lift trade barriers between the two sides to help reach the trade goal.
