  • Canada ratifies Patent Law Treaty. The Canadian Government on July 30 formally ratified the Patent Law Treaty. The Patent Law Treaty harmonizes and streamlines patent administrative procedures among national intellectual property (IP) offices, and delivers key benefits for businesses. The treaty will also help Canadian businesses looking to enter or expand their presence in international markets. The amendments to the Patent Act and the new Patent Rules will come into force on Oct. 30, 2019. This updated legislative regime will permit Canada to implement the Patent Law Treaty, according to the Canadian Intellectual Property Office.
  • CBSA closes record of review of carbon and alloy steel line pipe. The Canada Border Services Agency announced July 30 that it has closed the record of the normal value and export price review of certain carbon and alloy steel line pipe (line pipe) exported from South Korea to Canada by Husteel Co., Ltd. (Husteel). The schedule of the review was updated as well.
  • NAFTA textile/apparel TPL utilization. The Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade updated the 2019 NAFTA textile and apparel tariff preference level utilization rate for imports and exports.
