CBP Issues Final Rule on Vessel Repair Unit Location
The Port of New Orleans, Louisiana, is the only vessel repair unit location, CBP said in a final rule that is effective Nov. 29. The final rule updates CBP's regulations on "the declaration, entry and dutiable status of repair expenditures made abroad for certain vessels," it said. CBP ports are required to send a vessel repair declaration or an electronic equivalent to a VRU. Previously, three VRUs were listed, but only New Orleans remains operational, it said.
