The government of Canada recently issued the following trade-related notices as of March 27 (some may also be given separate headlines):

  • Canada’s 2017 budget brings changes to AD/CVD system. The Government of Canada is proposing a number of amendments to the Special Import Measures Act (SIMA) and related trade remedy regulations. These amendments will ensure that Canada's trade remedy system is strengthened and keeps accounting for the views of all stakeholders, while remaining aligned with international trade rules, according to a LexSage blog post (here).
  • Export Certificates under the Fertilizers Act available. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is now issuing non-mandatory export certificates for certain fertilizers and supplements, in an effort to facilitate access for Canadian products to foreign markets (here).
  • Product Recalls: Bargain Basket recalls children’s metallic flower ring (place of manufacturer is unknown) (here), for lead exposure hazard; Haibike USA recalls XDURO Race, Superrace and Urban electric bicycles manufactured in Germany and Taiwan (here), for fall hazard.
