products were two of the five top-performing categories for the week ended Dec. 31, sports leisure footwear, games and puzzles and laptop PCs, NPD said. Post-Christmas week “remains an important part of the equation” of the holiday selling season, going beyond gift card redemption and exchanges, it said. Gift cards and unwanted holiday gifts bring shoppers into stores they might not otherwise frequent, giving those retailers “the opportunity to introduce themselves to a new audience,” it said. “The dynamics of holiday shopping are changing, and retailers need to learn how to better leverage this post-holiday opportunity.”
