Another trend is expansion of IoT through low-power wide area network (LPWAN) technologies, which will open up opportunities for telecom operators and drive numerous applications such as smart metering, smart buildings, precision agriculture and environmental monitoring sensors, said IHS Markit. It expects LPWAN shipments to grow from 46.4 million units in 2017 to about 383 million units in 2021.
