OFAC Announces North Korean Sanctions
The Office of Foreign Assets Control on July 6 designated North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, along with 10 other individuals and five entities of the North Korean regime, for ties to human rights violations in the country, OFAC said (here). Sanctions included the following groups:

Sanctions also cover the following Pyongyang government officials:
- Choe Pu Il
- Ri Song Chol
- Kang Song Nam
- Cho Yon Chun
- Kim Kyong Ok
- Kim Ki Nam
- Ri Jae Il
- Choe Chang Pong
- Cho Il U
- O Chong Kuk
The sanctions were mandated by the North Korea Sanctions and Policy Enhancement Act of 2016. “The world cannot accept Kim Jong Un’s gross human rights abuses or his threats of nuclear holocaust," said House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce, R-Calif., who sponsored the bill (here). "These sanctions are an important step that can help force change – and they must be aggressively enforced."
