Obama Scheduled to Sign Customs Bill
President Barack Obama is expected to sign H.R.-644, the Trade Facilitation and Trade Enforcement Act of 2015 the afternoon of Feb. 24, one day after House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., signed the legislation during a ceremony on Capitol Hill, the White House said (here). "Later in the afternoon, the President will sign...H.R. 644 – Trade Facilitation and Trade Enforcement Act of 2015," states Obama's daily press schedule. Ryan hailed passage of the customs bill after several years of Hill discussion and debate. “These are important laws that are [the first] re-write in a generation,” Ryan said in a statement (here). “This is going to be about jobs; this is going to be about the rule of law; this is about putting the American worker and manufacturer first.” Ways and Means Chairman Kevin Brady, R-Texas, during the ceremony said the legislation “muscles up” enforcement laws and ensures that future trade agreements center around the priorities of Congress and citizens, “not the priorities of the White House and Washington bureaucrats.”
