CBP Finds Country of Origin of Herpes Medicine is China and India for Government Procurement

Tablets containing Acyclovir, a pharmaceutical product active against herpes viruses, are produced in China and India, said CBP in a final determination published Nov. 13 (here). "The Acyclovir retains its chemical and physical properties and is merely put into a dosage form and is packaged for sale" while in the U.S, said CBP. As a result, "no substantial transformation occurs in U.S., and for purposes of government procurement, the Acyclovir tablets would be considered a product where the active ingredient was produced, which would be China and India," it said.
