Canadian Government Notices for Sept. 11

The government of Canada recently issued the following trade-related notices for Sept. 11 (note that some may also be given separate headlines):

  • Canada’s international investments. Statistics Canada is reporting that Canada’s net international investment increased by $10.4 billion in the second quarter with a total net asset position of $231.7 billion. (here)
  • United States whole potatoes. The CITT announced that it will continue its original order it made on September 7, 2010 concerning the dumping of certain whole potatoes originating in or exported from the United States. As a result of the decision the CBSA will continue to impose anti-dumping duties on these products. (here)
  • Hot-rolled carbon steel plate. The CITT announced it has initiated an inquiry to determine if dumping and subsidizing of hot-rolled carbon steel plate originating in or exported from Russia and India resulted in injury to the Canadian market. (here)
  • Importer name/account number or business number changes. The CBSA has released Memorandum D17-2-3 which outlines the procedures to be followed by importers, brokers and agents when requesting an importer name/account number or business number change to interim or final accounting documentation as a result of their own error or that of the CBSA.   • Reinvestigation policy for the Special Import Measures Act. The CBSA has released Memorandum D14-1-8 which outlines and explains the policy for the conduct of re-investigations to revise normal values, export prices, and amounts of subsidy applicable to imported goods covered by orders or findings of the Canadian International Trade Tribunal.   • Product Recalls.
