CBP Seattle Closing Down CES

Seattle Container Exam Station (CES) MacMillan Piper will be shutting down operations over the next two months, according to a CBP notice issued June 30. On July 5, CES MacMillan Piper will no longer be available as an option for agriculture inspections. The last day for all other CBP exam-designated cargo for the CES will be Aug. 15. The facility will close for good on Aug. 31, said CBP.

Export Compliance Daily combines U.S. export control news, foreign border import regulation and policy developments into a single daily information service that reliably informs its trade professional readers about important current issues affecting their operations.

During the transition, CBP will work to ensure that “no unnecessary delays in cargo processing or exams occur,” it said. The agency tentatively selected Mercer Distribution Seattle and PCC Logistics Tacoma as new CESs on May 15, but the date the facilities will open still hasn’t been established because the facilities still need to meet all regulatory requirements and sign a written agreement with CBP.

CEVA Logistics will continue to operate as a CES until further notice, said CBP. Frozen food shipments or cold perishable cargo that requires special handling should be coordinated with the CBP Seattle Agriculture/Advanced Targeting Unit at (206) 553-1135, as options for cold storage “may have changed or may vary,” it said.
