OFAC Levels Sanctions on South Sudanese Rival Leaders
The Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) added two South Sudanese individuals to the Specially Designated Nationals List on May 6 for fueling internecine conflict in the country that has continued unabated in recent months. The two individuals are as follows:

Gadet is a rebel commander, while Mangok leads the presidential guard. Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Menendez, D-N.J., praised President Barack Obama for supporting such measures. “I commend President Obama on imposing sanctions against these two rival leaders, and reiterate my call for a strengthened U.N. peacekeeping mandate, the suspension of security assistance and other measures available to the administration to hold President Kiir and opposition leader Riek Machar accountable in the ongoing peace negotiations,” said Menendez (here).
