New York Governor Urges National Recall of Imported Toy
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo on April 21 urged a toy importer to recall a product that he claims contains over six times the level of phthalates allowed under federal law. “Clingy darts” imported by Greenbrier International of Virginia and sold in stores throughout New York, including Dollar Tree, present a health danger to children, he said. He also asked Dollar Tree to remove the products from its shelves.

According a release from the New York governor’s office, the New York Division of Consumer Protection has also asked the Consumer Product Safety Commission to order a national recall of the clingy darts. The state agency also asked the importer to stop distribution and sale of the clingy darts nationwide. Under New York state law, a “commercial dealer,” including an importer, must contact within 24 hours any person or entity who purchased a product subject to a recall or warning, says the release.. The dealer must direct the purchaser to stop the sale or distribution of the recalled product and provide disposition instructions.
