Air Freight Grew Faster in October, IATA Says
There was a small improvement in air freight growth in October, compared to October 2012, according to International Air Transport Association figures. It said global freight ton kilometers (FTK) grew 4% over the year ago period, with growth in all regions except Africa. It attributed the improvement, which began in the third quarter, to better economic confidence and improved consumer demand.

Middle East carriers reported 12.3% growth, European airlines 4.4% and North American airlines 3.7%, it said. Asia-Pacific carriers grew 2%, finally countering the decline over most of 2013, IATA said. The accelerated Chinese growth and trade volumes across the region indicates that Asia-Pacific may be poised for continued expansion, it said. The average load factor for October was 46.4%, better than the year-to-date load factor of 44.8%, but still several percentage points below 2010 when it peaked at over 50%.
