CBP's Integration of Lab and Scientific Services with CEEs Won't Include Restructuring

CBP's plans to "integrate" its Laboratory and Scientific Services (LSS) into the Centers of Excellence and Expertise will not include an organizational restructuring, said a CBP spokesman. CBP recently described the "LSS integration into the CEE" in a presentation for a Footwear Distributors and Retailers of America conference (see 13102427).

Export Compliance Daily combines U.S. export control news, foreign border import regulation and policy developments into a single daily information service that reliably informs its trade professional readers about important current issues affecting their operations.

"There are no plans at the present time for personnel from CBP’s Laboratory and Scientific Services (LSS) to transition to the Centers for Excellence and Expertise (CEEs) under CBP’s Office of Field Operations," said a CBP spokesman by email. "They will continue to work under CBP’s Office of Information Technology." CBP's LSS scientists "continue to provide a valuable service as liaisons to the CEEs with regard to testing of certain commodities for possible import safety violations, intellectual property rights (IPR) infringement or violations of other laws enforced by CBP. Their continued work within the CEE framework will help increase efficiency and provide a national picture with regard to commodities testing."
