According to the State Department, Transnational Crime Organizations (TCOs) continue to operate in Mexico. There is no evidence, however, that TCOs target U.S. citizens, the warning said. The number of U.S. citizens murdered in Mexico registered at 71 in 2012, a decrease from the 2011 figure of 113. U.S. citizens continue to be victims of a wide array of criminal activity though, including kidnappings and carjackings.
