CBP Touts Increased Trade Processing, CEE's in Review of FY 2012
An increase in CBP's trade processing and the additions of four new Centers of Excellence and Expertise (CEEs) were among trade issues highlighted by the agency in it's "2012 Fiscal Year in Review." CBP processed more than $2.3 trillion in trade, up 5 percent over FY 2011, "while enforcing U.S. trade laws that protect the economy, health and safety of the American people," it said. CBP also processed "nearly 25 million cargo containers through the nation's ports of entry, up about 4 percent from last year," and conducted nearly 23,000 seizures of goods that violate intellectual property rights, worth $1.2 billion, a 14 percent increase in value over FY 2011, said CBP

The agency also opened four new CEEs in FY 2012, it noted. The industry-specific Centers serve as single points of processing for participating importers and the new CEEs are based in Los Angeles, New York, Detroit, and Houston and support the Electronics; Pharmaceutical; Automotive and Aerospace; and Petroleum, Natural Gas, and Minerals industries, respectively.
