IMO to Restructure Subcommittee Structure

  • renaming the Subcommittee on Bulk Liquids and Gases the Subcommittee on the Environment, tasked with dealing exclusively with environment-related matters.
  • renaming Subcommittee on Dangerous Goods, Solid Cargoes and Containers as the Subcommittee on Cargoes.
  • the Subcommittee on Radiocommunications, Search and Rescue (COMSAR) and the Subcommittee on Navigation (NAV) would be amalgamated, into a combined single subcommittee.
  • the Ship Design and Equipment, Fire Protection, and Stability, Load Lines and Fishing Vessel Safety Subcommittees would be divided into two new technical subcommittees: One subcommittee to address ship design, stability and related codes, and the other to address equipment issues related to fire safety and life-saving.
  • renaming the Subcommittee on Flag State Implementation as the Subcommittee on Implementation.
