IMO to Restructure Subcommittee Structure
The International Maritime Organization Council endorsed in principle restructuring IMO's subcommittees to better address technical and operational issues covered by IMO regulations, IMO said. The proposals include:

- renaming the Subcommittee on Bulk Liquids and Gases the Subcommittee on the Environment, tasked with dealing exclusively with environment-related matters.
- renaming Subcommittee on Dangerous Goods, Solid Cargoes and Containers as the Subcommittee on Cargoes.
- the Subcommittee on Radiocommunications, Search and Rescue (COMSAR) and the Subcommittee on Navigation (NAV) would be amalgamated, into a combined single subcommittee.
- the Ship Design and Equipment, Fire Protection, and Stability, Load Lines and Fishing Vessel Safety Subcommittees would be divided into two new technical subcommittees: One subcommittee to address ship design, stability and related codes, and the other to address equipment issues related to fire safety and life-saving.
- renaming the Subcommittee on Flag State Implementation as the Subcommittee on Implementation.
