Clinton Asking Intelligence Community Support to Stop Wildlife Trafficking
Illegal trafficking in wild animals "relies on porous borders, corrupt officials, and strong networks of organized crime, all of which undermine our mutual security," said Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at a State Department-sponsored meeting on trafficking. "I'm asking the intelligence community to produce an assessment of the impact of large-scale wildlife trafficking on our security interests so we can fully understand what we're up against," she said.

"There's no quick fix, but by working closely, internationally, with all of these partners, we can take important steps to protect wildlife in their environments and begin to dry up the demand for trafficked goods," Clinton said.
Airline association Airlines for America commended Clinton for her efforts to combat wildlife trafficking and pledged its commitment to work cooperatively toward a global solution to the illegal trade issue, in a press release (here). It said A4A members work cooperatively with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, law enforcement, cargo shippers and other authorities, and don't tolerate illegal behavior aboard their aircraft.
