Following Suu Kyi’s meeting with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, where Burma’s progress towards democracy was discussed, a State Department spokesperson said “we’ve made quite a bit of progress already in easing the sanctions that we have, allowing the U.S. investment to go in.” However, the spokesperson said easing of sanctions will be done in a “measured way as we see progress.” Suu Kyi met with President Obama Sept. 19.
