EU Government Notices for Sept. 2-4

The European Union issued the following trade-related releases Sept. 5-7 (notices of most significance will be given separate headlines):

  • AD: China - Solar panels. The European Commission launched an anti-dumping investigation into imports of solar panels and their key components like solar cells and solar wafers, originating in China. In terms of import value affected, this is the most significant anti-dumping complaint the European Commission has received so far at €21 billion worth of imports in 2011. (here)
  • EU-Russia trade relations. Karel De Gucht, European Commissioner for Trade, gave an address at the Seminar on EU-Russia Trade and Economic Relations in Helsinki, Finland today. He noted, "Europe is the world's largest exporter of high-value-added manufactured goods and services; Russia's trade is focused on primary products, like gas, ores and wood." He also spoke about the benefits of Russia's recent WTO accession and also pointing out that "cheaper imports would benefit both Russian consumers and Russian businesses." He also noted that Russia, Europe's fourth largest market, is now more easily accessed by the EU. (here)
