ITA Receives Applications for Duty-Free Entry of Scientific Instruments
The International Trade Administration said it received the following applications for duty-free entry of scientific instruments. Comments are due by Aug. 8 to Statutory Import Programs Staff, Room 3720, U.S. Department of Commerce, Washington, D.C. 20230.

- CreaTec, Germany. The instrument will be used to investigate properties of materials and novel phenomena related to nanoscale science. There are no instruments of the same general category manufactured in the U.S.
- FEI Co., the Netherlands. The instrument will be used to investigate biopolymers and biological materials such as viruses, and animal and plant cells. There are no instruments of the same general category manufactured in the U.S.
- FEI Co., Czech Republic. The instrument will be used to study the morphological features and chemical composition of metallic, ceramic, polymeric, composite and biological materials (human and animal tissue). There are no instruments of the same general category manufactured in the U.S.
- FEI Co., the Netherlands. The electron microscope will be used to measure the morphology and orientation of grains and particles, as well as the structure, long and short range ordering, number and type of defects and the elemental composition of various phases in ceramics and metals including high temperature superconductors. There are no instruments of the same general category manufactured in the U.S.
- JEOL, Japan. The electron microscope will be used to examine the ultra-structure of cells and tissues from various model organisms such as Drosophila melanogaster (fruit fly). There are no instruments of the same general category manufactured in the U.S.
