APHIS Updates PPQ Manuals for July 6

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service issued emails July 6 announcing changes to some Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) electronic manuals. While some changes are minor, other changes may affect the admissibility of the plant products, including fruits, vegetables, and flowers.

FAVIR and the Fruits and Vegetables Manual: FAVIR (here) and the Fruits and Vegetables Manual (here) have been revised. There were several reasons for the revisions:

  • Changed the scientific names of Epinotia aporema and Maruca testulalis to Crocidosema aporema and Maruca vitrata
  • Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua: tomato: clarified the program requirements for tomatoes
  • Spain: Verna lemon: revised the list of approved growers for Verna lemons in Spain

In FAVIR, please see the Commodity Import Report (CIR) to view the import requirements. The manual pages numbers that have changed are 3-84, 3-102, 3-131, 3-142, 3-225, and 3-285 (changes are indicated by a black change bar in the left margin.)
