APHIS Updates PPQ Manuals for June 22

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service issued emails June 22 announcing changes to some Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) electronic manuals. While some changes are minor, other changes may affect the admissibility of the plant products, including fruits, vegetables, and flowers.

Miscellaneous and Processed Products Import Manual: The following changes have been made to the Miscellaneous and Processed Products Import Manual (here) reflect up-to-date information and corrections. The specific changes are listed after the table number below.

  • Table 3-144 Rice straw or rice hulls that are to be manufactured at APHIS-approved sites; change: treatment schedule cites in third column (Then:), first cell have been corrected
  • Table 3-145 Rice straw or rice hulls imported for purposes OTHER THAN manufacturing; change: treatment schedule cites in fifth column (Then:), first, second, and fifth cells have been corrected
  • Table 3-146 Rice--articles made of or fully manufactured and finished from rice straw; change: treatment schedule cites and language in fourth column (Then:), second cell, footnote #1, and footnote #2 have been corrected; language in third column (And is:), first cell has been corrected
  • Table 3-149 Rice--article made or manufactured from rice particles, leaves, hulls, or seeds, and may or may NOT contain straw; change: treatment schedule cites have been corrected in fifth column (Then:), second cell
  • Table 3-150 Saussurea costa=Saussurea lappa; change: language in first column (If:), first cell has been deleted
  • Table 3-163 Sugarcane--bagasse, bagacillo, and stalk residue (fibrous residues left after juice extraction); change: treatment schedule cites in fourth column (Then:), first and fourth cells have been corrected; language in footnote #2 has been corrected; language in third column (And port of arrival has facilities for:), first, second, fourth, and fifth cells has been corrected
  • Table 3-214 Ash logs and wood with bark; change: treatment schedule cite in second column (And:), first cell (third bullet) has been corrected
  • Links contained throughout the manual in the Table of Contents, List of Figures, List of Tables, Index, as well as internal and external cross-references have all been updated.

Manual for Agricultural Clearance: The online Manual for Agricultural Clearance (here) has been revised to update the action to take on contaminants and pests in aircraft holds. Revisions are included in Table 3-2-2 on page 3-2-5.
