FSIS Reports U.S. Submitted Codex Comments on Olives, Report on Pomegranates
The Food Safety and Inspection Service said the U.S. submitted comments regarding table olives to an electronic working group from the Committee on Processed Fruits & Vegetables, and issued a report on pomegranate sizing and uniformity from an electronic working group of the Committee on Fresh Fruits & Vegetables. Committee on Processed Fruits & Vegetables (CCPFV): The U.S. submitted comments on the second version of the proposed revisions to the Codex Standard on Table Olives (Stan 66-1981). The electronic working group is chaired by the European Union.
Committee on Fresh Fruits & Vegetables (CCFFV): The U.S. issued a report from the electronic working group for pomegranate sizing and uniformity, which concluded that the expanding international trade in pomegranates has not been hindered by the absence of an international standard on sizing and uniformity so, in the development of a proposed Codex standard for fresh pomegranates, it would be more appropriate to provide guidance on sizing and uniformity as an option rather than a requirement. The U.S. chaired this working group.
