APHIS Updates PPQ Manuals for March 16

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has issued emails announcing a number of changes to various Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) electronic manuals on March 16, 2012. While some of the changes are minor, other changes may affect the admissibility of the plant products, including fruits, vegetables, and flowers.

  • Cut Flowers and Greenery Import Manual. The online version of the Cut Flowers and Greenery Import Manual has been revised to add Costa Rica to countries regulated for gladiolus rust (Uromyces transversalis). Revisions are on pages 3-37, 3-46, 3-87, and 3-96.(03/16/12) (here)
  • Miscellaneous and Processed Products Import Manual. The online version of the Miscellaneous and Processed Products Import Manual has been revised: 1) Table 3-56 Corn and closely related plants change: NEW fourth row has been added; footnote #2 has been added 2) Table 3-57 Corn and closely related plants (OTHER THAN an article crafted or manufactured article or ingredient in potpourri) change: language in second column (And:), second cell has been corrected 3) Table 3-116 Nuts—unprocessed nuts out of their husks, shelled or unshelled, from OTHER THAN Canada or Mexico change: “acorns” has been added in first column (If the article is:), last cell; directions and authority in fifth (Then:) and sixth (Authority:) columns has been corrected. Links contained throughout the manual in the Table of Contents, List of Figures, List of Tables, Index, as well as internal and external cross-references have all been updated. (03/16/12) (here)
  • CITES I-II-III Timber Species Manual. The CITES l-ll-lll Timber Species Manual has been updated to change the issuing authority address. The revision, identified by a black change bar in the left margin, is on Page 3-89, Table 3-5, Block 6. (03/16/12) (here)
  • Approved Phalaenopsis in Growing Media Facilities. The list of Approved Phalaenopsis in Growing Media Facilities has been updated to add new grower names and new greenhouse grower numbers, to change some grower names, to change some greenhouse location addresses, and to remove some grower names and some greenhouse numbers. Revisions are indicated by a black change bar in the left margin and appear on all pages of this update. (03/16/12) (here)
