Canadian Government Notices for Feb 9-10

The Government of Canada issued the following trade-related notices for Feb 9-10, 2012 (note that some may also be given separate headlines)

  • Exports of Uranium. Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced that substantive negotiations have been reached on an agreement that will allow the increase of exports of Canadian uranium to China. (here)
  • Tax Treaty negotiations. Prime Minister Stephen Harper has announced an agreement in principle on an updated Canada-China Tax Treaty. The updated treaty will help promote trade and investment and will also further reduce rates of withholding taxes that apply on certain cross border payments and eliminate double taxation for companies doing business or earning income in the other country.   • Eggs for Breaking Purposes Quota Holders List. DFAIT has updated the 2012 eggs for breaking purposes quota holders list. (here)
  • AD & CV Applications. CBSA has issued several memorandums concerning the application of antidumping duties and countervailing duties to the following importations of commodities, which are Memo D15-2-49 on China and China Taipei carbon steel fasteners (here), Memo D15-2-54 China aluminum extrusions (here), Memo D15-2-44 China carbon steel pipe fittings (here), Memo D15-2-52 China carbon steel welded pipe (here), Memo D15-2-60 China metal grating (here)
  • China stainless steel sinks. CBSA has made preliminary determinations of dumping and subsidizing on January 25, 2012 respecting the alleged injurious dumping and subsidizing of certain stainless steel sinks with a single drawn bowl having a volume between 1,600 and 5,000 cubic inches or with multiple drawn bowls having a combined volume between 2,200 and 6,800 cubic inches, excluding sinks fabricated by hand, originating in or exported from China.
