Canadian Government Notices for Nov 11-14

The Government of Canada issued the following trade-related notices for Nov 11-14, 2011 (note that some will also be given separate headlines):

  • Interest in TPP. Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada (DFAIT) issued a press release on Canada's announcement during the recent APEC leaders meeting on its intent to enter into formal consultations with members of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) on Canada’s possible participation in negotiations.   • APEC meeting. At the leaders' meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum, Prime Minister Harper highlighted the actions the Canadian Government is taking to engage the Asia-Pacific region (here)
  • Canada-Mexico telecomm agreement. On November 13, 2011, Canada's Minister of International Trade signed an agreement with Mexico that eliminates the need for certain retesting for smart phones and other telecommunications products. (here)
  • Textile/apparel remission order authorizations. The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has issued Customs Notice 11-022 to inform industry that CBSA is now accepting applications for the 2012 calendar year for renewals of authorizations required pursuant to six Remission Orders most recently amended by the 2008 Order Amending Certain Textile and Apparel Remission Orders.   • HBCD in personal care products. The Minister of the Environment has issued Ministerial Condition No. EAU-591a on the manufacture and import of hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD) in personal care products. (here)
  • CITT hearings. The Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) will hold public hearings in December on the value for duty purposes of certain underwear and socks imported by Jockey Canada Company and the proper classification of certain rubber or hydraulic hoses. (here)
  • Pup joints from China. The CITT has issued a preliminary affirmative injury determination regarding certain pup joints from China. (here)
  • Steel sinks from China. CBSA issued a notice and statement of reasons on its October 27 decision to initiate investigations of alleged dumping and subsidizing of certain stainless steel sinks from China. (here) (here)
  • Environmental impact of Canada-India CEPA. Canada is seeking comments for an Environmental Assessment it is conducting to inform its negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with India. (here)
