  • EU & Russia agree on terms for WTO accession. EU Trade Commissioner De Gucht announced that the last remaining bilateral issues for the EU in Russia's accession to the World Trade Organization, which concerned car production, have been resolved. The negotiations will continue at the multilateral level with the aim of concluding key remaining issues soon. (here)
  • Antitrust proceedings against Johnson & Johnson. The European Commission has opened an antitrust investigation to assess whether contractual arrangements between U.S.-based pharmaceutical company Johnson & Johnson and generic branches of the Swiss-based company Novartis may have had the object or effect of hindering the entry on to the market of generic versions of Fentanyl, a strong pain killer for chronic pain.   • Draft plan for REACH substance evaluation. The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has submitted the first draft of its action plan to Member States and the ECHA Member State Committee. The draft plan contains 91 substances that are proposed for review by the Member States under the substance evaluation process of the REACH regulation. The Committee will prepare an opinion on the draft plan in February 2012. ECHA will adopt the final plan on the basis of the Committee's opinion. (here)
  • Recalls. The European Commission has issued its weekly list of measures to prevent or restrict the marketing or use of 65 products in the EU, including certain clothing, chemical products, motor vehicles, electrical appliances, etc. (here)
