- Conference on GMO cultivation. EU Commissioner Dalli has announced that he will organize a conference on the socio-economic dimensions of the cultivattion of genetically modified organisms (GMO) for October 18, 2011. The conference will be web streamed here. Conference agenda is available here.
- EU official says openness in China not improving. The EU Trade Commissioner has stated that there is a general feeling in Europe that economic openness in China is not improving. A recently published EU report has pointed to factors such as China's size, role of the state, and industrial policy in certain sectors as increasing China's competitiveness within the EU and in third markets. The report provides four specific policy recommendations on how the EU can deal with these issues. (here)
- EU & Moldova customs cooperation. The EU Commissioner for Taxation has endorsed a strategic framework for better customs cooperation with Moldova. The framework builds on three priorities for 2011-2014: (1) improving cooperation and risk management at borders and speeding up customs procedures, (2) effectively detect and decrease illegal trade on the Moldovan border, and (3) step up investment in customs modernization.
