CPSC Reopens Comment Period on Torch Fuel, Lamp Oil Petition
The Consumer Product Safety Commission has reopened the comment period on a petition it received in May requesting that it initiate rulemaking to require special, non-see-through, packaging for torch fuel and lamp oil to make it impossible to see the product when it is in the container.

(The petitioner asserts that certain petroleum distillates, including torch fuel and lamp oil, as currently packaged, resemble juice, which is attractive to children. The petitioner states that this causes a needless danger to children, including several documented hospitalizations and the death of her own son.)
The Counsel for the petitioner requested the extension and given the interest in the subject by the public, CPSC is granting the request.
Comments are now due by November 16, 2011.
