USA-ITA Proposes Textile CEE to CBP Commissioner, Other Industries also Meet
On August 30-31, 2011, U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Bersin and senior CBP staff held roundtable discussions with members of the trade community for a periodic "Trade Day" event, with participants including textile importer, surety, trucking, airport and other groups. During the dialog, USA-ITA discussed CBP's textile enforcement strategy, including the need to recognize good actors, and the association's interest in a textiles Center for Excellence and Expertise (CEE).

Besides the U.S. Association of Importers of Textiles and Apparel (USA-ITA), "Trade Day" participants were from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, International Trade Surety Association, Business Alliance for Customs Modernization, American Trucking Association, and Airports Council International-North America.
According to CBP, such events give CBP senior leaders an opportunity to collaborate with key industry members and trade associations on issues affecting U.S. economic competitiveness and job creation, global supply chain security, and the development of new approaches to CBP processes aimed at driving down transaction costs.
(CBP's release notes that the CEE pilots with the pharmaceutical and electronics industries, which were launched in November 2010, are on-schedule to be permanently established in October 2011.)
