Staff Wants to Defer Decision for 6 Months, Focus on ASTM Voluntary Standards

CPSC staff recommends that the Commission defer its decision on the petition for six months and direct staff to participate in the ASTM F15.24 subcommittee to develop a voluntary standard addressing accessible cadmium from children's metal jewelry, and to work with the ASTM F15.22 subcommittee on the ASTM F963 standard with respect to toy jewelry.

Commission Could Later Consider Progress on Voluntary Standards and Vote

If the Commission votes to defer its decision for six months, at the end of the six month period, staff will provide the Commission with an update on the progress of the voluntary standards for children's jewelry and toy jewelry. At that time, the Commission could make a determination to continue to defer its decision on the petition and proceed with the voluntary standards process or to pursue other Commission action.
