The European Union issued the following trade-related releases on December 21, 2010:

Export Compliance Daily combines U.S. export control news, foreign border import regulation and policy developments into a single daily information service that reliably informs its trade professional readers about important current issues affecting their operations.

  • EU-China trade meeting. The EU and China held their third High Level Economic and Trade Dialog (HED) on December 20-21, 2010 in Beijing where both parties agreed to expedite the full implementation of the EU-China IPR Customs Enforcement Action Plan and endorsed the Strategic Framework for Cooperation to provide an effective structure to facilitate and secure trade under the EU-China Customs Agreement. They also discussed innovation and competition.
  • Chemical classification and labeling Jan 3 deadline. The EU reminded the trade that pursuant to the Classification, Labeling and Packaging Regulation, manufacturers and importers are required to notify the classification and labeling of chemical substances placed on the EU market to the European Chemicals Agency by January 3, 2011.
  • Council adopts new EU trade policy. The Council of the EU has adopted conclusions on EU trade policy to, among other things, conclude the WTO Doha negotiations in 2011; deepen trade partnerships with the U.S., China, Russia Japan, etc; strengthen exports from EU's small and medium sized enterprises; secure better protection and effective enforcement of intellectual property rights, etc. (See ITT's Online Archives or 11/12/10 news, 10111230, for BP summary on EU's 5-year trade policy.)
