  • Russia may join WTO in 2011. The European Union Commission President Barroso met with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on December 7, 2010, and stated that the EU-Russia trade agreement reached a milestone in relations and that he thinks Russia joining the WTO in 2011 is now a very real perspective.
  • EU-India trade agreement. The EU will hold its 11th annual Summit with India December 10, where among other things, they will discuss an early conclusion of a broad-based investment and trade agreement.
  • EU ag product promotion. The EU has approved measures to provide information on, and to promote certain agricultural products in countries outside the EU, including wine, fruit and vegetables, meat, spirits, and olive oil.
  • LCD firms fined for price fixing. On December 8, 2010, the EU fined six producers of liquid crystal display (LCD) panels a total of €648,925,000 for operating a price fixing cartel between October 2001 and February 2006. The companies fined are Samsung Electronics and LG Display of Korea, and Taiwanese firms AU Optronics, Chimei InnoLux Corporation, Chunghwa Picture Tubes and HannStar Display Corporation.
  • EU-China illicit drug controls. Eighty EU and Chinese public and private experts met on December 6-7, 2010 to discuss enhanced methods of combating illicit drug manufacture through increased precursor chemical control systems, border control and partnership with the chemical industry.
