Affects Older Versions Manufactured Prior to 2008 Voluntary Standard

The recall involves older versions of these Graco strollers and travel systems that were manufactured prior to the existence of the January 2008 voluntary industry standard which addresses the height of the opening between the stroller’s tray and the seat bottom.

Recalls Due to Reports of Strangulation Deaths, Entrapment Risks

CPSC and Graco have received four reports of infant strangulation deaths that occurred in these strollers between 2003 and 2005. In addition, CPSC is aware of five reports of infants becoming entrapped, resulting in cuts and bruises, and one report of an infant having difficulty breathing. This voluntary standard requires larger stroller openings that prevent infant entrapment and strangulation hazards.

Import, Sale, Distribution of Recalled Products is Prohibited

Note that the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA) made it explicitly unlawful to sell, offer for sale, manufacture for sale, distribute in commerce, or import into the U.S. any consumer product that is subject to voluntary corrective action (recall) or is not in conformity with a CPSC-enforced product safety rule.
