U.S. and Korean Legislators Urge Substantive Changes to KORUS FTA

On October 18, 2010, Congressman Mike Michaud (D), Chairman of the House Trade Working Group, was joined by 20 of his congressional colleagues and 35 members of South Korea’s National Assembly in sending a letter to President Obama and South Korean President Lee urging them to make substantive changes to the U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement (KORUS FTA).

Export Compliance Daily combines U.S. export control news, foreign border import regulation and policy developments into a single daily information service that reliably informs its trade professional readers about important current issues affecting their operations.

According to Congressman Michaud, the letter demonstrates that there are serious concerns among legislators in both countries about the contents of the KORUS FTA, including those related to market access issues for textiles, autos and beef.

President Obama announced in June 2010 his goal to address the outstanding issues pertaining to the KORUS FTA by the November G-20 meeting and send the agreement to Congress for approval in the following months.
