ICE Congratulates Mexico on WCO Award for Seizing Most Counterfeit IP Products

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Assistant Secretary John Morton has congratulated Mexico's law enforcement community for their recent award presented by the World Customs Organization for seizing the most counterfeit intellectual property (IP) products this year. "With this honor, Mexico has established itself at the forefront of the international struggle to combat this very serious problem" said Morton.

Morton added that the Servicio de Administración Tributaria (SAT) is a valuable partner at the National Intellectual Property Rights Coordination Center, and highlighted its contribution against IP theft through joint United States/Mexican IP enforcement actions such as last year's 'Holiday Hoax' operation." ICE states that the IPR Center is one of the U.S. government's key weapons in the fight against counterfeiting. The IPR Center offers one-stop shopping for both law enforcement and the private sector to address the growing transnational threat of counterfeit merchandise.
