CBP Revenue Division Wants Bond Submissions With 1 Attachment Only
On June 11, 2010, U.S. Customs and Border Protection's Revenue Division in Indianapolis posted a notice stating that it has started to process and store bond documents electronically.

This will require RD to convert each and every attachment submitted for a new continuous bond, termination request, or bond rider into a TIF format. As a result, RD is asking for bond document requests to only contain a single attachment. This will eliminate the need for RD to convert multiple documents as opposed to converting only one document. The conversion process could be avoided if the attachment that is submitted is already in TIF format with a DPI setting of 300.
Bond Application's Order for Documents in Attachment
For example, when submitting a new continuous bond, scan and send the necessary documents as a single attachment in the following order: CBP Form 301 (1st page), CBP Form 301 (2nd page), bond application, CBP Form 5106 (if applicable) and any other documents, i.e. power of attorney, partnership papers, etc. Submit only one scanned copy of the CBP Form 301. Multiple copies are not necessary.
Single Attachment May Become Mandatory in Future
Although not a requirement at this time, RD anticipates that at some future date all bond submissions will be required to conform to these specifications.This new process should be beneficial to not only CBP but also the trade community. RD states the electronic bonds will reduce the amount of paper used, enhance the quality of the imaged processed bonds and also expedite the notification of processed bonds.
