New Product Codes Should be Used Immediately

The new codes should be used immediately where appropriate to identify the product being submitted for entry, using currently existing conventions for building a product code for Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN)-regulated products.

Numerous Product Codes in 2 New Classes Added

The new codes for these products have required FDA to add new product code classes. Class J is "Herbal & Botanicals II" and Class K is "Herbal & Botanicals (other than teas) II" in Industry 54.

The new product classes and codes are as follows:

(The products are shown by: (1) Product Code; (2) Product Description; (3) Synonyms available in the CBP system & FDA Web-based Product Code Builder; and (4) List of Synonyms not available in the CBP system & FDA Web-based Product Code Builder.)

(Note that FDA has often stated that the quality of data and codes is important for FDA's automated import admissibility screening module, PREDICT (Predictive Risk-based Evaluation for Dynamic Import Compliance Targeting). However, in April 2010, FDA suspended further rollout of PREDICT due to IT infrastructure problems. PREDICT will continue in full production use in Los Angeles and New York Districts and is screening every line entered through the ports in those districts. See ITT’s Online Archives or 04/20/10 news, 10042021, for BP summary of FDA announcing that has suspended further rollout of PREDICT.)
